Is Vac Ex safer than traditional digging?
Yes. Vac Ex is significantly safer than traditional mechanical digging. It uses controlled compressed air and high-powered vacuum suction to expose underground services without direct contact. This greatly reduces the risk of service strikes, injuries, asset damage, and unplanned outages.
Can you excavate around live services?
Yes. Vac Ex is specifically designed for working around live underground services such as gas, water, electricity, fibre, and telecoms. It allows precise, non-destructive excavation, making it the preferred method in high-risk or congested environments.
How deep can you excavate using Vac Ex?
Vac Ex excavation can be carried out to depths of up to 1.5 metres without shoring or trench support. Deeper excavation is possible depending on the scope of works, ground conditions, and the implementation of additional safety controls, which will be assessed during planning.
Do you offer operated or self-hire?
GP Site Solutions provides operated hire only. Each job is delivered by two fully trained and competent operators, ensuring safe operation, compliance with RAMS, and consistent quality on site.
Can Vac Ex be used in confined or restricted spaces?
Yes. Vac Ex is highly effective in confined or restricted environments. Additional hose extensions can be configured to suit the specific scope of works and are discussed and agreed with the client at the time of booking.
What types of projects is Vac Ex suitable for?
Vac Ex is suitable for highways, civils, utilities, construction, rail, environmental remediation, and local authority projects. It is particularly effective where precision, safety, and minimal disruption are critical.
Does Vac Ex reduce reinstatement costs?
Yes. Because Vac Ex is a non-destructive excavation method, it minimises damage to surrounding ground and surfaces. This typically results in reduced reinstatement work, lower material costs, and shorter programme durations.
Is Vac Ex suitable for live road and traffic-managed environments?
Yes. GP Site Solutions operates highways-ready Vac Ex units, including left-tip vehicles with full Chapter 8 compliance. These are suitable for lane closures, live carriageways, and traffic management zones.
How quickly can you mobilise to site?
With multiple depots across the Midlands and nationwide coverage, GP Site Solutions can often mobilise quickly, subject to availability, site requirements, and RAMS approval.
Do you provide RAMS and pre-site planning support?
Yes. GP Site Solutions prepares and reviews RAMS as part of the booking process to ensure works are delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with client requirements.
